Radio Abyss draws inspiration from Nietzsche's famous quote: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." Bringing new values into the world to occupy the abyss moves us past nihilism.
I collected field recordings from diverse locations around the globe—from the jungles of West Papua to the mountains of Kashmir and bustling cityscapes. I then processed these recordings through a speech-to-speech conversion, resulting in the creation of nonsensical speech generated by an AI voice generator. These unique sounds, intertwined with musical elements, create a captivating auditory experience that raises questions: What do the sounds of the spaces we live in mean for us? What do they become after we invite technology into our world, and what could they mean for AI?
Radio Abyss installation was created with the support of UKAI projects and the Canadian Council for the Arts.
